My friend at work recently asked me “what is your favourite book?” I did not answer very well and gave her a list of top 5 I could think of at that very moment of time while making drinks on the bar.

This made me think I should write a blog answering my friends question properly, with my top 15 favourite books of all time and why they hold a special place in my heart. Don’t worry even though my friend does not read my blog, I will be sending her the link when published so she can read a proper reply to her question.

Here are my top 15 favourite books (in no particular order as I cannot rank them!) and why they hold a special place in my heart.

1.Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol

This has always held a special place in my heart as growing up I always felt like Alice. In a world I don’t understand and that doesn’t understand me, and feeling lost and daydreaming another world in my mind. (turns out autism was why I felt on the outside). Always had a special connection to this book, and now I collect many things alice in wonderland themed including 5 different copies of this book!

2. The Ghost Tree by Christina Henry

This is one of the rare books I have actually read more than once. It is very rare books that I re-read and I could not put it down until finished. I literally locked myself away in my bedroom, for a week to finish. It’s a mystery about witches and a monster and people going missing, and was right up my street and an easy read.

3. Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens

I received this as a secret santa gift and just loved it. It really made me question what is love at first sight and what if a suitcase can lead you to your soulmate and what is a soul mate? I am a hopeless romantic so of course this book made my favourite list!

4. An Orphan’s Journey by Rosie Goodwin

Another book that managed to be one of the rare books for me to read more then once. First when I went to Cornwall on family holiday. I didn’t put this book down and then again last year at summer camp, I read it on my kindle on time off from being a counsellor/rainy days/any reading time. Loved this story and it fully took me through Pearl’s live and some heartbreak, some struggles, some bad things and some good things too, without spoiling it.

5. Night Shift by Annie Crown

I picked this up in the works and immediately started reading before even getting home. As a fellow bookworm and hopeless romantic, Kendall was a very relatable character whom if at university at the same time I am sure we could have been good friends. It was more spicy and graphic then I am use to but still was good enough to make this list!

6. Solitaire by Alice Oseman

This book I had personal revelations about. Its about Tori Sprigg who is asexual and definitely autistic coded. I feel in love with Alice Osemans writing, binge read this, heartstopper series and loveless which all combined helped me understand I am bisexual and asexual. Since being a big part of me understanding myself and my sexuality, and my soul, it has to be on the list!

7. With This Kiss by Carrie Hope Fletcher

I love Carrie Hope Fletcher, watched her youtube for years, watch her in theatre as often as I can afford, read all her books. Definitely a big fan and hopeful!!! However out of all her books, this is the one I have read three times in total. I really connect with the main character Lorelai, and really interesting concept of what is you kiss someone and can see a vision of how they die?!

8. The Day we Got Stuck In A Fairytale by Ben Miller

I read this book in one day (unusual for me as a very slow reader!!) and then read “the day we got stuck in a tree” by Ben Miller also, but this one is definitely a favourite out of the two! The concept being a magical supermarket appears over night and the sweet isle is a magical bus station into different fairy tales. Very nostalgic and was an easy read and beautiful illustrations.

9. I Love You, Lola Bloom by Rosy Dee

This warmed by gay heart so much! Its about a bookworm and an author who fall in love and even go to a fairy tale ball that made me very jealous! It was at times spicy which I am not use to spicy however I loved every second of this book and will definitely be re-reading again!

10. Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales

This book was about a student who was doing a secret agony aunt through a locker and emails and giving advice. It had me gripped and as a fellow writer and someone who stayed away from crowds and big gatherings in school who did her own thing, I felt very connected.

11. Project Nought by Chelsey Furedi

All I can say about this graphic novel is gay love, time travel, non binary representation and adventure. and with that description can you see why I love this book?

12. Mooncakes by Wendy Xu,Suzanne Walker, Joamette Gill

This book is a beautiful graphic novel about witches, wolves, adventure, love, baking. It was so much fun to read and loved every second of it!!!

13. Charlotte’s Web by E.B White

I read Charlotte’s Web when I was 9 and it was the first non picture book I read all by myself without any help from my mum, and that was big for me as a child who didn’t know dyslexia was why I struggled with reading yet. For the reason alone it’s a very special book in my heart and makes the list.

14. She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen

A girly girl cheer leader and an athletic basketball player whom have enemies to lovers situation as they have to pretend to be dating for social media. It’s a very fun sapphic story and I fell in love with their characters. I have re-read twice so you know I love it!

15. Looking Glass Girl by Cathy Cassidy

I started this post and list with Alice and Wonderland, lets finish with one that’s themed the same. I found this in a charity shop for 50p and could not say not to that! Immediately read it within 4 days and loved it. It is about a young girl going to her first sleepover and they make it a mad hatter’s tea party and there is a prank or accident that ends her in a coma where she is dreaming in wonderland. As someone who never fitted with the popular girls and feeling on the outside and all the other reasons I said about the original Alice In Wonderland, it has a special place in my heart.

They’re my top 15 favourite books and why they have a special place in my heart!!!! Tell me in the comments what are some of your favourite books and why?
